Lake Cumberland is located in beautiful south central Kentucky near the city of Somerset. Lake Cumberland is one of the deepest and largest man made lakes in the United States. The lake is approximately 50,000 acres in size during summer pool.
Lake Cumberland started construction in the late 1940's and was finished in August 1952 for flood control of the Cumberland River. Another primary use for the lake is the generation of hydro-electric power. The lake was constructed and is still maintained by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife.
