Doe Run Lake Overview

Doe Run Lake

Doe Run Lake is located just north of Independence Kentucky. It is a small lake that offers big fish and sometimes an even larger challenge. The main entry point is the top of the dam located off of Bullock Pen road. The lake allows NO gasoline powered boats of any type. Bank fishing near the dam can be tough for a number of reasons. Your best bet for a good outing is a small fishing boat with a trolling motor, Kayak or canoe. Fishing the coves away from the dam has in my experience yielded more and larger fish.

Doe Run Lake was impounded in the early 1980's as a measure of flood control above Banklick Creek. It was originally the first of several lakes in the area to be built for flood control. Due to local pressure the other lakes were never built. Doe Run Lake lies entirely in the city of Erlanger, Kentucky but Erlanger has no direct access to the lake. The closest city with access to Doe Run is Independence, Kentucky.
