Rock Bass

The rock bass is a gamefish in the sunfish family. The rock bass is easily recognized by its bulgy red eyes. It is easily caught on ultra light tackle and spinning gear.

Rock bass prefer clear water and rocky shore lines. They can also be found from time to time on the edges of large weed beds as long as the water is fairly clear.

Rock bass in Kentucky are usually caught along rocky shorelines with overhanging trees or shrubs. This vegetation allows for a plentiful supply of insects to "fall" into the water for the fish to feed on. They also feed on crawfish and other smaller fish.

The average length of the rock bass is 8 - 10 inches.
